Best Ways to Protect Your Security System From Vandalism

M&J Video recently received a call from a new customer in Paramount. One of the cameras had been stolen from her 16 camera security system at her apartment building. It was in an isolated hallwall leading to the underground parking area. The camera was simply mounted on an indoor camera mount without a protctive housing. Before replacing the camera we did a complete walk through and inspection of the property. We found the cameras were good quality, but the wrong type of cameras were used in certain areas. Box cameras should be placed in a tamperproof housing and installed high enough so that it can’t be reached. If the ceiling is too low, a vandal proof dome camera should be used. The vandalproof dome camera is anchored into the wall making it impossiable to turn and almost impossiable to steal. We  replaced the stolen box camera with a vandal dome and also replaced 2 more that were easy for someone turn or simply yank off the wall. We also try to place the cameras in a corner so that if it is tampered with. we still get a good shot of the persons face.The shot is than captured on the digital video recorder (DVR) and can be down loaded onto a disk or thumb drive.
