M&J Videdo installed a CCTV system at a home in Calabasas 6 years ago. Recently our customer sold his home and the new owner has moved in. The new home owner wanted to upgrade the DVR and some of the cameras. 6 years ago most DVRs were not ready to view with a smart phone or on a Mac computer. We installed a new DVR that is PC, Mac, IPhone, Android and IPad compatable. The change takes a few hours and since the new owner is having work done on his house he can keep an eye on all the contractors. M&J Video was installing a CCTV System in Bellflower when our customer asked us if we could install an alarm system. He owned a 4 bedroom home and he wanted to alarm the front and back doors and the second story that contained all the bedrooms. After installing 6 cameras to cover the perimeter and 6 cameras covering the inside of the house, we added 2 magnetic contacts for the doors and a motion detector upstairs. The alarm parts can be wired into the digital video recorder (DVR) to an alarming input module so that everytime the door opened or there was motion on the second floor an email was sent to his Smart Phone. So when he was out of town or the house was supposed to be empty he could access his cameras, also with his Smart Phone or a computer, to see what caused the alarm. The nice thing about this feature? You don’t need to pay an alarm company a monthly fee to monitor your system and with many municipalities charging a fee for false alarms you can save money in more ways than one!
At M&J Video we get calls about Covert Cameras, also called Nanny Cameras, all the time. Nanny Cameras are hidden cameras used to watch babysitters and other help that you would hire around your house. Cameras can be hidden in all sorts of items such as smoke detectors, motion detectors, alarm clocks, and stuffed animals. They can also be hard wired or wireless. When using hard wired cameras it is best to use smoke detectors or motion detectors because the cable can be installed in the walls and ceiling, than run to a digital video recorder (DVR) hidden in a bedroom or attic. When using these types of cameras we recommend having the system installed by a trained technician. But when using wireless Nanny Cameras the installation is as esay as plugging in a clock radio. Just place it in the room that you want to view and the wireless transmitter sends a signal to a reciever that is plugged into your DVR. The information is than recorded normally as if the cameras were hard wired. When using multiable cameras you can set each camera to its own channel. These cameras will save lots of money on installation but the main drawback is distance and clear reception. Most wireless video transmitter/receivers made for indoor use have a distance rating of 100′-300′ with direct line of site. That distance is drastically reduced when the signal has to travel through walls or go from the first floor to the second floor, so there may intermittent signal loss or static in the picture. M&J Video has completed a Video Security Installation in West Hollywood. We received a call from one of the many management companies that we work with through out Los Angeles. This management company services many apartment buildings in West Hollywood and they wanted to add more cameras to a building that had an existing 5 camera system with a 9 camera DVR. We added 4 more cameras and upgraded the DVR to a 16 camera unit. We installed conduit for the cable in the underground parking, added the cameras and programed the DVR to be live on the Internet. The whole instalation took 2 days.
