CCTV System Installation with Infrared Cameras

When M&J Video starts a CCTV system installation one of the main things we discuss with the customer is the style of camera to be installed. Many times the lighting is poor or non existent in the areas where the cameras are to be installed and in these cases an infrared camera should be used. Infrared cameras have LED lights that are built into the cameras housings. The cameras can see 30 feet all the way out to 250 feet, so our installers will determine the strenght of the IR illumination need for each camera position. For homes, 50-100 feet is normally sufficient. For large areas in apartment buildings or parking lots more powerful infrareds are needed. Our CCTV installers will determine which infrared cameras are best suited for you job.

Video Security Camera Installation with 2 Terabyte DVR

When M&J Video starts a video security camera installation one of the first things we have to consider is the amount of video backup the customer needs to have saved on the digital video recorder (DVR). All DVRs come with a built in hard drive and the can range from 1 terabyte to 16 terabytes. When programming the dvr there are many variables to take into account. Setting the DVR to motion detection will save hard drive space and allow for more back up. Raising or lowering the frame rate and resolution also affects the amount of back up to be stored. A DVR with a single terebyte set on motion detection and a high frame rate with the highest  resolution will store about 6 weeks of recorded video. So keep this in mind when starting your video security camera installion.

Upgrade Your Old Security Cameras With a New CCTV Installation

In 2007 M&J Video installed 5 sceurity cameras in an apartment building in Palmdale. The cameras were box cameras with 4mm lenses,420 lines of resolution and because they were installed outdoors in a parking lot they were put in weather-proof housings. The owner wanted to get better coverage at night so we exchanged the old cameras for new Infrared Bullet Cameras. The new  cameras have a 100′ infrared range, 4mm- 12mm varifocal lenses, 650 lines of resolution, and are 100 percent weather -proof so they do not need any additional housings. Because no new cable needed to be run the camera installation was quik and easy. And since the new infrared cameras auto detect 12 volt or 24 volt power there was no need to swap out the transformers that supply the power to the cameras. The customer will now see 100 percent better at night just by upgrading the cameras to infrared. M&J Video not only does video security camera installations in Palmdale, but other cities close by such as, Lancaster, Agua Dulce, and Victorville. And when quoting an upgrade we can usually do it right on the phone.

Choosing a Company That Installs Access Control Systems

One of our customers in Pasadena called recently to upgrade their video security system, but the call wasn’t about the camera system. The customer had a 8000 square foot  warehouse with 8 offices and two locked storage areas. They wanted to make the storage areas accessible to only certain employees and keep a log of how many times per day they went in and out. The customer also wanted to make sure that no one went in after hours. An access control system was the answer. With an access control system a card is used to open the door by swiping it on a card reader. Cards can be issued to all employees, but access to certain areas and access times can be programmed into the main panel. The accesss control system is linked to a computer, so just log on and all information is available in an instant. For added security we put a hidden motion detector camera inside the storeroom. M&J Video has installed many access control systems, not only in Pasadena, but other cities in the area such as Glendale, Eagle Rock and Azusa.

Program Your DVR to Send E-Mail Notifications

M&J Video received a call from an old customer yesterday. We installed  a video security system about 3 years ago in her small business. The CCTV system included a digital video recorder (DVR) and 1 camera to watch the back door. At the time we installed the system she did not have DSL service in her area. Hard to believe, but there are still some spots in Ventura and Oxnard that don’t have high speed Internet service. This particular business is the Ventura Harbor area. DSL has now become available to her and she wanted to link her DVR to the Internet. The DVR already had the ability to connect to the Internet ,so it was simple to run a CAT-5 cable to the DSL modem. The back door was used by the manager to enter and open the store for the days business. The owner wanted the DVR to send her an e-mail alert to her IPhone when camera detected motion. We programmed  the DVR and now she is sure the store is opened on time daily. Most DVRs have the e-mail notification function in the network settings of the main menu.
