Non-Profit Group in Santa Barbara Uses P/T/Z Camera to View Wildlife

M&J Video received a call last year from a non profit foundation in Santa Barbara. The group receives calls from all over the Santa Barbara area including, Carpinteria, Summerland and Golita regarding ocean birds in distress. They take the birds, including pelicans and seagulls, to their facility in the foothills of Santa Barbara and nurse them back to heath. At the facility they have a fenced holding area with large pond. The fence is 20 feet high with netting on top to safely house the birds. We installed a Pan/Tilt/Zoom camera at the center of the holding area giving them the ability to control the camera from a nearby office. The P/T/Z camera offers 360 degree views of the pen as well as being able to zoom in on the birds for a super close up. We also added a digital video recorder (DVR) to record all motion for 2 months. A high resolution LCD monitor is used to view the camera on site, but we also linked the DVR to the Internet. The customer has full control of the P/T/Z on line from any computer and the ability to play back recorded video by accessing the search function of the DVR.

M&J Video Will Set-up Your Video Security System for Live Viewing on the Internet

Some of our customers here at M&J Video only want to view their CCTV systems through the Internet. The only thing the customer needs to do is have a High Speed Internet Connection installed (DSL). The two most popular providers are the phone company and the cable company. It can sometimes take up to three weeks to get your DSL equipment, so plan ahead. But evn if the DSL is not installed until after we have completed the camera system, that’s OK. When all the pieces are in place a CAT-5 data cable is connected from the digital video recorder to the DSL modem. We than program the digital recorder to work with a static IP address or with a router in which case a static IP sddress is not needed. Some people like to try this on their own,but it can get complicated and we include internet setup in every CCTV installation we do.

Best Ways to Protect Your Security System From Vandalism

M&J Video recently received a call from a new customer in Paramount. One of the cameras had been stolen from her 16 camera security system at her apartment building. It was in an isolated hallwall leading to the underground parking area. The camera was simply mounted on an indoor camera mount without a protctive housing. Before replacing the camera we did a complete walk through and inspection of the property. We found the cameras were good quality, but the wrong type of cameras were used in certain areas. Box cameras should be placed in a tamperproof housing and installed high enough so that it can’t be reached. If the ceiling is too low, a vandal proof dome camera should be used. The vandalproof dome camera is anchored into the wall making it impossiable to turn and almost impossiable to steal. We  replaced the stolen box camera with a vandal dome and also replaced 2 more that were easy for someone turn or simply yank off the wall. We also try to place the cameras in a corner so that if it is tampered with. we still get a good shot of the persons face. The shot is than captured on the digital video recorder (DVR) and can be down loaded onto a disk or thumb drive. Also if you leave your DVR unattended or

Video Security Cameras For a Barn?

Most people don’t know that many homes in Burbank have horses in their backyards. The home looks like a regular 3 bedroom home in a residential area, but the backyard can have as many as 4 corrals and a small barn not visable from the street. M&J Video recently completed a CCTV installation with 4 infrared bullet cameras to view 2 horses and a barn. The infrared cameras can see in complete darkness and are recorded with a digital video recorder (DVR). The cameras can be viewed on a monitor in the house and live on the Internet wirh a smart phone or any PC. M&J has also done many security camera installations for more traditional ranch style homes in Hidden Hills and Sun Valley that look more like horse property and have large barns and lot’s of horses. Just knowing that you can look in on your animals 24 hours a day gives the horse owners a great sense of security.

Public View Video Monitors

M&J Video just installed a Public View Video Monitor at a retail store in Glendale. A public view monitor is a high resolution color monitor with an equally high resolution camera built right in to the monitor housing. Public view monitors are a great way to let the customers know they are being watched. Mounted at the front door where the customers enter, its a great way for the employees to keep an eye on the stores traffic. The public view monitor also gets a great face shot of all customers and records tnem  directly to a digital video recorder to be stored on its internal hard drive. If you  own a small business and want a great deterrent to shop lifting think about installing a public view video monitor

Balancing The Cost Of Equipment and Labor For Your CCTV Installation During an Apartment Renovation

M&J Video just did a quote for a CCTV installation at a large apartment building in Norwalk. The owner just finished a multi-million dollar renovation and the building looks beautiful. but there was one thing he should have taken into consideration before completing the project- THE VIDEO SECURITY SYSTEM. When the building was being rewired and concrete was replaced and walls were being refinished that was the time to install conduit and prewire for the CCTV system. Planning ahead will save big money in the long run. Our customer will end up paying more for the installation than for the video cequipment. So if you are remodeling a home or apartment its easier, cheaper and cleaner to pre-wire the CCTV system and you will be ready to install the cameras when the remodel is complete. If you need a quote for your apartment CCTV installation and you are in Norwalk, South El Monte, Commerce or Santa Fe Springs call us before you start that remodel.

Wireless Security Cameras For Business

Here at M&J Video we get calls from business owners about Wireless Security Cameras almost daily. Wireless security cameras are a great option when running cable is either impossible or cost prohibitive. We installed cameras for a business in Northridge that stored cars in an outdoor lot. The office was located in the center of the lot surrounded by concrete. The customer needed to watch the entry gate 200′ away from the office. Cutting a trench in the concrete, running cable and conduit and than refilling the trench would have been messy and expensive. This was a perfect application for a Wireless Video Transmitter/Receiver. After installing the camera a short cable is run from the camera to the video transmiter. The camera and the transmitter are plugged into a power outlet at the front gate. The video receiver is mounted on the roof of the office and a cable is than run to the digital video recorder inside the office. The picture is viewed and recorded just as if cable had been installed between the camera and DVR. There are a few things to take into account when installing wireless security equipment; First you must have line of sight between the transmitter and receiver. Walls and trees will greatly reduce the distance or distort the clarity of the picture. Second, measure the distance between the transmitter and receiver. Wireless security equipment has the ability to travel a few feet or a few miles and costs can vary widely. M&J does CCTV installations, not only in Northridge, but Chatsworth, Granada Hills, Mision Hills, San Fernando and Sylmar.

How To Effectively Place CCTV Video Security Camera Systems for Storage Units

M & J Video has been installing Video Security Systems in Mini Storage Unit complexes for 28 years.  The most important aspect of an effective system is the CCTV camera placement.  Using the latest technology, we place Long Range Infrared Cameras looking down each isle.  To monitor cars coming in and out of the facility, we utilize License Plate Cameras, providing comprehensive documentation for the manager’s records.  Vandal Proof Dome Cameras supply clear pictures of activity inside the storage hallways.  By placing the DVR and LCD Monitor inside the manager’s office, full vision of everything going on at the complex can be achieved.  With various sized terabyte storage on the DVR’s, you can accumulate up to six months of past activity.  In a particular company with Storage Units in Santa Clarita, Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Santa Barbara and Santa Maria, we installed an audio system with two way communication so the manager can contact or speak live with somebody if they have a problem getting in to their unit, or have encountered some type of vandalism.  This gives a manager the confidence to be in control of multiple venues.  Using the DVR, an owner or manager can also watch the system live, do playback from the hard drive and virtually control the operation off site.  For any further questions about how best to cover a Storage Unit facility, call M & J Video at 800/404-8433.  We also offer expert service on existing CCTV Video Security Systems at storage facilities.

Choosing A Security Camera System For Your Home

Most people don’t know how to choose a video security camera system.  The first thing you would do is to figure out how many cameras you would need.  The homeowner would want to cover the backyard, the side yard and the front yard.  Typically, you would use infrared bullet cameras, which would allow you to see in low light conditions or complete darkness.  The next step would be to choose your digital video recorder.  Digital recorders come in four, eight and sixteen camera models.  You can also choose the amount of hard drive you want, from 500 gb to 4 tb.  The larger the hard drive, the more storage space you have.  The next step would be how to choose how to view  your cameras. They can be viewed live on site with an LCD monitor, or through the internet using your DSL connection.  The most important thing is to make sure you have a CCTV installer with lots of experience.  M & J Video has been in business for 28 years, installing video camera systems in 1,000 of homes southern California, as far as Santa Maria and Santa Barbara to Palm Springs and Indio.  You can trust our video installers to do a complete, clean and thorough job, with a free, one year, on-site technical support guarantee.  Of course, you will need the cost of your CCTV system up front, and M & J Video will give you a free estimate right over the phone.
