Check Your DVR Monthly to Stop Trouble Before it Starts

M&J Video got a call from a customer in Pacoima last week week. He had a DVR installed at his home4 years ago. When he installed the video surveillance system he was having an issue with a neighbor that was quickly resolved after the cameras were installed. It had been about 3 1/2 years since he checked any recordings. He had an issue and went to check the back up and he found that one of his 2 hard drives was not working. The DVR simply needed to be rebooted. The point is, even if you don’t have any issues you should check you video security equipment at least once a month. You don’t want to miss something important when it does happen.

Video Surveillance Installation in Burbank and Irwindale

M&J Video has a long time customer with a warehouse in Burbank. 13 years ago we installed a video surveillance system with 10 black and white cameras and a 24 hour VCR recorder ( the VCR was still functioning after 13 years!) Our customer was moving his business to Irwindale and wanted to know if he could use his old video security equipment. What we decided to do was take 5 of the old black and white cameras and install them inside the new warehouse. He than purchased 5 color infrared cameras for the outside areas and a new 16 camera digital video recorder to record all the cameras. Since he was working on a tight buget he saved a good chunck of money and now that the cable is installed we can swap the black and white cameras for new color units whenever he is ready. We also left 5 cameras installed for the new owner of the warehouse in Burbank and put in a new DVR for him. He also has the cable from the old system so if he wants new cameras the installation will be fast. M&J not only services Burbank and Pasadena but all areas close by such as North Hollywood, Glendale and Pasadena,

Choose the Right Video Security Installer to Save Time and Money

A business acquaintance called us a few days ago with an emergency. Someone he knew contracted a video security installer to put in a 4 camera surveillance system and a remote contol door lock. The video eqipment was purchased at one of the big box stores in Los Angeles and the hardware for the door was purchased at a hardware store. The price to install the equipment was extremely inexpensive. After waiting over 3 weeks just to get the job started, there was nothing but trouble once the installation got started. There were many holes made in the walls, cable visable where it should have been hidden and worst of all the frame of the door was ruined. The first thing we did was return all the cheap equipment. Than we went in and reinstalled the video cable, patched the holes in the walls and set up the camera system to the proper specs. We also set up the door with an intercom and door release so the customer could control who he let in his store. When choosing a video installer do your homework. If the price is to good to be true it probably is and it will end up costing more in the long run.

When Your Video Surveillance Monitor Stops Working

Today M&J Video received a call from our customer at a self storage facility in Ojai . They have 16 cameras, a DVR and an LCD Monitor. This is a standard video surveillance system used for many self storage businesses. The manager wanted to have a tech come out and check the monitor which was blank. But before we sent a tech we asked a few basic questions to try and save her having to pay for a service call. So the first thing we ask is, “Are the DVR and monitor plugged in”? Yes they were.  Most Video Surveillance Monitors have multiple inputs, Video, RF, VGA and sometimes more. Next check tho make sure the monitor is set to the proper input. With the manager using the remote control, supplied with the surveillance monitor, we told her to set it to the video input. That fixed the problem. The pictures came back on and our custumer saved money. We service and install video surveillance systems in Ojai and other cities in tne area such as, Santa Barbara, Santa Paula, and Fillmore.

Surveillance System Installation on the Beach with a Pan/Tilt/Zoom

Sometimes people use video surveillance cameras for things other than security. M&J Video recently installed 4 cameras in a beautiful home on the beach in Santa Barbara. 3 of the cameras are infrared bullet cameras that are used to watch the front door, driveway and back deck. The 4th is a Pan/Tilt/ Zoom (P/T/Z) camera that can be controlled inside the house with a joystick. The family uses the P/T/Z to watch their kid play and surf in the ocean and also watch wildlife around the home. Since the P/T/Z has a 32X zoom  lens they can record whales as far as a quarter mile away, birds in flight and seals on a reef. They record everything in real time at 60 frames per second, per camera on a digital video recorder. All the video is saved to a hard drive built into the DVR. Because the video is saved for over a month they can than choose whatever they want to download to a disk or thumb drive. This familiy is having a great time with their video surveillance camera system. M&J Video also installs Video Surveillance Camera Systems in other areas around Santa Barbara such as Carpinteria, Goleta and Buellton.
