The DVR can store recorded video for 1 week to 1 year, depending on the frame rate, resolution and other factors, such as motion detection. All DVRs can be set up to record only when there is motion in front of the camera, This saves space on the hard drive and gives you more recording time on smaller hard drives. So when that truck gets to its destination and there is a discrepancy in the count, you have the proof recorded. The recorded video can be downloaded to a disk, thumb drive or stored on your computer. Do you need to limit access to certain parts of your building to different to employees? Keep a log of who went into certain rooms and what time they went there? Some people like to troubleshoot their video security system before calling a service tech. If a camera is not showing up on the monitor, first make sure its plugged in. Each camera has its own transformer and it should be warm to the touch. If there is still no picture you can take the video cable from the DVR and plug it in directly to the monitor and if you get a picture that would mean the input is faulty on the DVR. Make sure the video camera connector is tight and secure on the cable. Play back the recorded video on your DVR and see what time the camera went out. One time we did a service call at an apartment building in West Hollywood and after playing back the video we found that the camera had been stolen! The good news was that we recorded a great face shot of the thief,down loaded the image to a thumb drive and gave it to the police. We completed 2 homes last week, one in Ontairo, the other in Riverside. Both had nanny cameras installed in smoke detectors and motion detectors. Smoke detector and motion detector cameras are a great way to covertly watch your children and nannys while you are at work. The cameras are installed with no video cable visable and are recorded on a Digital Video Recorder. The DVR will only record when there is motion in the room, making searches easy. The homeowner can than view the recorded information, or watch live, on a computer at work, on a smart phone or at home on a monitor. Our tech did 3 service calls to different cities on Tuesday. The first stop was in Oxnard to replace a 20″ LCD monitor. Than out to Los Angeles to replace 2 power supplies at an apartment building. The power supplies were for 2 color vandal proof domes with infrared lights. Then over to Chatsworth to replace a Panasonic color camera that had been installed 9 years ago. We replaced it with a Sony EX- View color camera and 2.8-12MM lens. We service cites from Santa Maria to Riverside and from Palmdale to Irvine. Got a new customer in Chino. We are installing a video door intercom. We replaced the customers door bell so now when someone rings they can see and talk to whoever is at the front door. The system has a video capture card to take and store snapshots in the monitoring unit in the house. The best thing about this job? We used the existing cable for the door bell to wire the video intercom. Saved installation dollars for the customer. We just made sure to get the right unit as some need specific wire. This one could be used with cat-5, 2 conductor or phone wire making the install simple.
We are currently installing 2 license plate cameras with infrared lighting in a shopping center in South El Monte. They will make a great addition to the 23 cameras that we already have installed to cover the parking lot and walkways. Every license plate will now be recorded to the DVR and logged for 3 months.
We just installed a GREAT new sound system for long time customers at a retirement and nursing home in Mission Hills. 4 pairs of Jamo 125 watt speakers with a 5 disk CD changer and a 275 watt amp are perfect for pre recorded music. We also put in a Shure wireless Microphone for live singers and piano concerts. One thing we learned, when the customer ordered another microphone after the job was complete, was that the Shure system could only have one microphone in use at a time. We upgraded our customer to a dual wireless transmitter at no cost to them.
Today we started a job for a large apartment complex in Sylmar. The building presented a problem in that the 4 buildings were separated from each other. We found where the phone wires were run under ground and we were able to run our cable without cutting concrete or stringing the cable from building to building. And that saved the customer money and made the installation much cleaner. They also had no lights in the parking area so we used Infrared cameras to see in the limited light and an Infrared license plate camera to log every car entering the property.
